Kingdom Hearts is a celebrated story of friendship, courage, and the battle between light and darkness. The series began in 2002 with the first installment, Kingdom Hearts I and has captured the hearts of gamers around the world since. The story begins with a heavy storm disrupting the tranquility of Destiny Islands, the beloved home of best friends Sora, Kairi, and Riku. Sora soon discovers that their wish of traveling to and discovering new worlds will soon become reality.
Afraid yet unaccepting of the fact that his friends may be gone forever, Sora embraces this new journey into the darkness. The series has jumped into many time frames, including Birth by Sleep, which takes place 10 years prior to the first installment and tells the story of the Keyblade Wars. Aqua, Ventus, and Terra are now a vital part of the story. The fans of Kingdom Hearts have now grown up since Kingdom Hearts, but the emotional connection they have formed with the series is a lifelong friendship within itself. Kingdom Hearts III was announced that it was in the works all the way back in June of 2013 at the E3 Conference, and a true release date is yet to be released. There have been only a few updates, teasers, and trailers but the fans are anxiously awaiting more.
Something that the new Kingdom Hearts III installment may struggle with is finding the right worlds to incorporate into the new game. In the past, we have made friends in Agrabah, Halloween Town, Atlantica, Olympus Coliseum, and more treasured Disney Worlds. However, since the kids that first played Kingdom Hearts in 2002 have grown up and a new generation of players will be exposed to this game, Square Enix needs to be careful in selecting the worlds that will satisfy both the grown up generation and the new and younger players coming up.So far, Big Hero 6 and Tangled have been confirmed as new worlds for Kingdom Hearts III. Head Designer Tetsuya Nomura has disclosed that many recurring worlds in the previous Kingdom Hearts game including Halloween Town and the Pride Lands will not make it into the third game. We are hoping worlds like Frozen and worlds from Marvel and Star Wars do not make it into the game because Marvel doesn't fit the feel of the game as much as other contenders and Frozen will not connect well with the older generation. However, it could connect with the new generation of players. Since the series has had such a long time between releases, Square Enix is an a very interesting place when it comes to picking worlds to reach both target markets.
